2/22/2009-0444 Hours - HOUSE FIRE - 197 EAST SECOND STREET
At 0444 hours a call was received reporting a fire in the second floor apartment of 197 East Second Street.  Engine 3 FF Ahrens arrived first onscene, and crews found a fire in a ceiling heater unit extending into the attic of the residence.  The fire was quickly extinguished with 2 water cans.  An 1 3/4" line was advanced to the attic for backup and Engine 1 laid 475' of 5" from Webster and East Second to Engine 3.  There were no injuries reported, and the apartment sustained minor damage.  The #1 shift was on duty for the fire, and the Incident Commander was Captain Allen Loeb.  Alstar EMS stood by at the scene, and Engine 2 was placed in service and sent to Headquarters.  LINK TO OBSERVER ARTICLE  Crew on duty: C2-Captain Loeb, R1-Lt.Hanlon, E1-FF.Trippy, E3-FF.Ahrens, E4-FF.Piglowski, L1-FF.Barter, and E2-FF.Meyer.  (PHOTOS BY ALLEN HOLLANDER)
3/6/2009- 1602 Hours  BUILDING FIRE - BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB - 55 EAST BENTON STREET
At approximately 1602 hours on Friday, 653 received multiple calls reporting heavy smoke inside The Boys and Girls Club on East Benton Street.  This building was formerly Dunkirk's School #6.  Rescue 1 was dispatched to an EMS call moments before receiving this call so it had a delayed response.  Engine 4 FF. Piglowski arrived first onscene reporting smoke in the southwest area of the building off Nevins Street.  A 1 3/4" Handline was advanced, and Engine 3 advanced a 5" supply from the hydrant at Nevins and East Benton.  All occupants escaped the building without harm as there were approximately 75 children on the premises at the time of incident.  The fire was discovered and extinguished in a heater unit on the first floor, and the building was searched and ventilated.  The #1 shift was on duty for the fire, and Captain Allen Loeb was the Incident Commander.  Alstar EMS stood by at the scene and some off duty personnel assisted.  LINK TO OBSERVER ARTICLE  Crew on duty: C2-Capt.Loeb, R1/E1-Acting Lt.Ahrens, FF.Muscato, E3-FF.Meyer, E4-FF.Piglowski, and L1-FF.Kirell (PHOTOS BY ALLEN HOLLANDER)
3/8/2009- 1646 Hours  E-3 MUTUAL AID - TRAILER FIRE - 3711 EAST LAKE ROAD - EAST DUNKIRK
At approximately 1646 hours on Sunday afternoon, Engine 3 was dispatched as automatic mutual aid to a report of a trailer fire at 3711 East Lake Road Lot #3 in East Dunkirk's Fire District.   FF.P.Ossman arrived first with E3 reporting a working fire and (2) 2 1/2" Handlines were advanced to supress the fire.  Engine 2 was placed into service at Station 3.  Sheridan was also called as mutual aid to assist East Dunkirk.  Units/Personnel Onscene- C2-Capt.Loeb, and E3-FF.Ossman.  (PHOTOS BY PAUL TRIPPY)
4/11/2009- 0558 Hours  GARAGE FIRE - 224 RUGGLES STREET
At approximately 0558 hours on Saturday morning, Dispatch received a report of a structure fire in the area of 200 Ruggles in the Fourth Ward.  Crews arrived onscene reporting a fully involved garage fire threatening a residence and neighboring garage.  (2) 1 3/4" and (1) 2 1/2" Handlines were used off Engine 1, and a 5" supply line was received from Engine 3 at West Doughty and Lincoln.  All units were clear of the scene at 0731 hours, and the cause was determined to be human involvement.  Chief Ahlstrom was the incident commander, and the # 1 shift was on duty.  Crew on duty: C1- Chief Ahlstrom, R1-Acting Lt.Ahrens, E1-FF.Muscato, E3-FF.T.Ellman, E4-FF.Pencek, and L1-FF.Kirell (PHOTOS BY ALLEN HOLLANDER AND DEAN WRIGHT)
5/19/2009- 1659 Hours  HOUSE FIRE - 253 FRANKLIN AVENUE AT DOUGHTY STREET
At shift change, 1659 hours on Tuesday dispatch received multiple calls reporting a structure fire at 253 Franklin Avenue in the Fourth Ward.  FF. Piglowski on Engine 4 arrived moments after dispatch reporting heavy smoke coming from a 2 1/2 story occupied dwelling.  One resident  suffered burns in the fire and was treated by EMTs at the scene before being transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital by Fredonia Rescue 14.  
Crews found a fire in the second floor that had quickly extended into the attic.  Multiple 1 3/4" and 2 1/2" hand lines were used along with numerous ground ladders and Ladder 1's Aerial Ladder.  A pregnant dog was rescued from the second floor, and  treated at the scene by Firefighter EMT's.   The #2 and #1 shift were on duty for the fire and the Incident Commander was Captain Allen Loeb.  Engine 2 was placed into service at the incident.  The building was left in care of the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team to determine a cause.  Crew on duty: C2- Captain Loeb, R1-Lt. 5/19/2009 - HOUSE FIRE - 253 FRANKLIN @ DOUGHTY
6/15/2009- PHOTOS ADDED FROM DRILLS AT 114 ANTELOPE STREET
Between June 9th and June 12th, The Dunkirk Fire Department was fortunate to have a vacant residence to use for training that is scheduled for demolition.  Captain Allen Loeb and Lt./Municipal Training Officer Gary Katta prepared the building for training, and planned evolutions for all 4 shifts.  At an unknown time to the crew working, Captain Loeb placed a rescue manikin in a specific location of the residence, and prepared a picture of the house with fire showing in a certain location.  Then a call was made to Fire Headquarters, and crews were dispatched to this location for a reported house fire.  All units responded in non-emergency mode to the scene. Crews were presented with Captain Loeb advising the first arriving unit that there is a victim inside, where the victim was last seen, and where the main body of fire is.  With our limited manpower, crews went to work.  In all 4 events, the victim was quickly located and rescued from the building.  Times were noted from dispatch to rescue, and were very impressive.  (PHOTOS BY ALLEN HOLLANDER AND PAUL TRIPPY)

6/19/2009- 0507 Hours  HOUSE FIRE - 761 CENTRAL AVENUE
At 0507 hours, Headquarters received a report of a house fire on Central near West Lucas. Rescue 1 and Engine 1 arrived onscene finding a multiple family 2 story residence with heavy fire conditions in the rear.  Crews quickly extinguished the main body of fire from the outside, and interior crews contained the fire to the first floor addition only.  (2) 1 3/4" and (1) 2 1/2" Hand lines were used off Engine 1, receiving a 5" supply laid by Engine 4 700' away at East Lucas near Eagle.  Multiple ground ladders were used and the roof was ventilated.  The three family residence was vacant at the time of incident, and the cause was determined as probable human involvement.  Many off duty personnel assisted, and Reserve Engine 2 was manned at HQ.  The #4 shift was working for the fire, and Chief Keith Ahlstrom was the incident commander.  Crew on duty: C1-Chief Ahlstrom, C2-Captain Loeb, R1-Lt.Hyland, E1-FF.Trzaska, E3-FF.K.Ossman, E4-FF.Barter, L1-FF.T.Ellman,  Off duty personnel: E2 @ HQ-FF. 7/9/2009- 0017 Hours  HOUSE FIRE - 321 SWAN STREET
At 0017 hours on Wednesday, Headquarters received a report of a structure fire in the vicinity of 326 Swan Street.  Crews found an occupied 2 1/2 story single family residence with heavy smoke in the attic.  Fire broke through the roof, and was immediately extinguished by interior crews.  (1) 1 3/4" and (1) 2 1/2" Handline were used, and the roof was ventilated.  There was moderate fire damage to the attic, and water damage to the remainder of the residence.  The cause of the fire was determined by the City of Dunkirk Fire Investigators with the assistance of the Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team to be electrical.  Off duty personnel assisted, and Engine 2 was manned at Headquarters.  The fire was under control at 0052 hours, and the last unit left the scene at 0238 hours.  Captain Loeb was the incident commander, and the #2 shift was on duty for the incident.  Crew on duty: C1-Chief Ahlstrom, C2-Captain Loeb, R1-Lt. 7/6/2009- 2048 Hours  BUILDING FIRE - 320 SOUTH ROBERTS ROAD - EDGEWOOD WAREHOUSE
At 2048 hours on Monday, Headquarters received a report of a fire in the vicinity of the Edgewood Warehouse.  Engine 4 arrived encountering heavy fire conditions on the Southwest corner of the vacant warehouse.  Engine 4's deluge gun and (1) 2 1/2" handline were used to extinguish the fire which extended from the base of the building to the roof line.  Ladder 1's aerial device was used to check for extension and assist with overhaul.  The fire was contained in approximately ten minutes, and units remained onscene for 40 minutes.  The cause of the fire was determined to be human involvement, The #1 shift was on duty for the fire, and the Incident Commander was Captain Loeb.  Crew on duty: C1-Chief Ahlstrom, C2-Captain Loeb, R1-Acting Lt.Muscato, E1-FF.J.Ellman, E3-FF.Pencek, E4-FF.Trippy, L1-FF.Stern,  Off duty personnel: E2 @ Scene-FF. 7/10/2009- 0701 Hours  BOAT FIRE - CHADWICK BAY MARINA FUEL DOCK - OFF CENTRAL AVENUE
At 0701 hours on Saturday, Multiple calls were received reporting a boat fire at the fuel dock of Chadwick Bay Marina in Lake Erie off of Central Avenue.  Engine 3, Engine 1, and Rescue 1 arrived onscene with an approximate 20' vessel burning.  The deluge gun from Engine 1 was used initially, then crews were able to extinguish the fire with (2) 1 3/4" handlines including one with foam.  The cause is undetermined, and one civilian suffered minor burns from the fire.  Crews were onscene for approximately an hour and a half, the #3 shift was on duty and Chief Ahlstrom was the Incident Commander.  Crew on duty: C1-Chief Ahlstrom, R1-Acting Lt.Muscato, E1-FF.Pencek, E3-FF.Meyer  Off duty personnel: Capt.Loeb, Lt.Hanlon, and  FF.Kujawa.  Dispatch/L1-FF.Trippy - (PHOTOS BY ALLEN HOLLANDER AND PAUL SZACH)  
8/10/2009- 0208 Hours  BOAT 1 AND MANPOWER MUTUAL AID TO SILVER CREEK FOR FLOODING
At 0208 hours, Silver Creek Fire Department and the Chautuauqua County Emergency Services personnel requested Boat 1 to respond to the Village of Silver Creek to assist with major flooding.  Boat 1 was removed from its dock in Chadwick Bay Marina and trailered to Silver Creek.   The boat was not utilized, but the crew that responded performed extensive searches residences inside the Village.  The crews returned to Fire HQ at 0945 hours.  Details on the Silver Creek incident can be found at OBSERVERTODAY.COM  or other local media sites.

8/13/2009- 1000 Hours  ENGINE 2 ASSISTS CREWS IN SILVER CREEK WITH FLOOD CLEANUP
On Thursday morning, 616 Firefighters Jared Meyer and Paul Trippy responded to the Village of Silver Creek with Engine 2 to assist with the cleanup efforts from the flooding.  The crew and engine were used in the morning to fill other apparatus from a set of portable ponds in a parking lot off of Route 5.  In the afternoon, the crew used handlines to remove the large amounts of mud from the parking lot and building of Our Lady of Mount Caramel Church on Central Avenue in Silver Creek.  The crew arrived back in the city at approximately 1800 hours.  

8/26/2009- 1111 Hours  BUILDING FIRE - FIELDBROOK FARMS - ICE CREAM DRIVE
On Wednesday morning, headquarters received a report of a trailer fire near a larger building at the Fieldbrook Farms facility off Ice Cream Drive.  Rescue 1 arrived first on scene reporting light smoke showing, and 1 1 3/4" hand line was used off Engine 4 to extinguish a small fire in the framing of the structure.  The fire was started from crews using a cutting torch, and all units were in station at 1133 hours.  Crew on duty: C1-Chief Ahlstrom, R1-Lt.
